Abstract

838,449. Gasifying powdered fuel. KOPPERS G.m.b.H., H. Nov. 5, 1956 [Dec. 16, 1955], No. 33726/56. Class 55 (1). The invention relates to an arrangement for the production of valuable gases by gasification in suspension of finely divided fuels with oxygen and perhaps steam, consisting of reaction chambers 2, 3 at high temperature, in which the gasification is substantially completed, a gas-collecting chamber 1, into which the reaction chambers open, and a steam boiler 10 adjoining the chamber 1. The chamber 1 consists of an elongated, horizontal tube of preferably circular cross-section, on the bounding surface of which the chambers 2, 3 are disposed in two diametrically opposite rows and in spaced relationship in the rows, a steam boiler 10 and an ash extraction device 6 being provided in association with each pair, or each group of pairs of opposite reaction chambers 2, 3, the boiler 10 and device 6 adjoining the chamber 1 at the top and bottom respectively and having their axes perpendicular both to the longitudinal axis of chamber 1 and to the plane formed by the axes of the chambers 2, 3. The fuel and oxygen are blown as at 5 into the faces 4 of chambers 2, 3 and the gasification residues run down the walls of chamber 1, pass through cones 6 and tubes 7 into a water bath 8 from which they are removed by means, not shown, to a conveyer trough 9 for discharge. The cones 6, which may have water-cooled jackets and scraping devices, have their largest diameter, attached to chamber 1, of such size that adjacent cones 6 abut and the base of chamber 1 has no horizontal surfaces on which residues can collect. The gases flow from chamber 1 through a vertical radiation boiler 10, horizontal boiler 11 and tubular boiler 12 to be discharged at 14. Low-pressure steam is generated in boilers 10, 11 and high-pressure steam in boiler 12. A dust funnel 13 extends downwardly from boiler 11. Yielding, but gas-tight seals 18, 19 may connect the boilers. Chamber 1 may have an external double metal jacket forming a low-pressure steam generator. Specification 837,307 is referred to.
