Abstract
837,669. Suction dredger nozzles. BLANKEVOORT EN ZOON N.V., D. Dec. 5, 1958, No. 39292/58. Class 68(1) A suctionnozzle for a suction dredger is characterized in that relief valve means are provided in a chamber in the nozzle to which excavated material and water are supplied separately for mixing together to form a suspension that is withdrawn from the chamber through a suction pipe 10. The relief valve means comprises a spring- loaded plate 27 and prevents excessive pressure building up in the chamber by allowing escape from the chamber of any excess material entering the chamber due to operational circumstances. The depth of cut of the nozzle in the material is regulated by an adjustable plate 23 and the quantity of water entering the chamber from a pipe 25 is controlled by a flap valve 30. The nozzle is maintained against the material to be excavated at a substantially constant pressure in a cylinder 17 connected to a tank containing air under pressure. Pressure variations experienced in previous suction heads due to pitching of the dredger are not experienced in the above described suction head.
