Abstract
837,377. Adhesive bandages. SMITH, C. W. Sept. 26, 1958 [Sept. 27, 1957], No. 30899/58. Class 81 (2). An adhesive bandage comprises a flexible, transparent backing 10 having a pressure-sensitive transparent adhesive 11 and an absorbent pad 12 on one side, and carrying a plurality of coloured markings, preferably flesh-coloured, to provide alternate clear and coloured areas. The markings are preferably applied to the same side of the backing as the adhesive using a vinyl base ink, such as a solution of vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer containing iron oxide pigment blended with a small amount of carbon black. The markings, which may be cross-hatched lines of uniform, Fig. 3, or varied, Fig. 7, thickness, or dots (not shown), are preferably spaced apart by about <SP>1</SP>/ 8 -<SP>1</SP>/ 32 inch and of such thickness that the coloured and clear areas are approximately equal. Plasticized vinyl chloride is suggested for the backing and a composition including polyisobutylene for the adhesive. Specification 754,848 and U.S.A. Specification 2,484,060 are referred to.
