Abstract

A gasoline or diesel motor fuel contains (a) an ester of a phenol of formula <FORM:0837287/III/1> where R is an alkyl or alkoxy radical, n is 1, 2 or 3, and AC is an acid radical derived from a fatty acid, an aromatic or hydroaromatic acid or a naphthenic acid, and/or (b) an ester of formula R-O-AC where R is an alkyl or alkoxyalkyl radical and AC is an acidic radical derived from a fatty acid or alkoxy fatty acid and in which either R or AC or both contains an alkoxy group. The additive may be mixed with the fuel when dissolved in a mineral oil or synthetic hydrocarbon. The fuel may contain 0.005 to 1% by volume of the additive. The fuel may also contain an aromatic light oil obtained from tar distillation, a mixture of high-boiling benzene homologues, a partly hydrogenated naphthalene, a fatty acid containing more than 12 carbon atoms, a mixture of naphthenic acids with a neutralization number below 200 or an alkyl ester of such a fatty acid or naphthenic acid. In examples, gasolines and diesel fuels contain acetic and naphthenic acid esters of cresol, methoxybutyl acetate, butyric acid ester of cresol, methoxybutyl butyrate, oleic acid, naphthenic acids, and mineral oils. Other ingredients mentioned are the ethyl and methoxybutyl esters of methoxyacetic acid, and the lauric acid ester of methyl glycol. Specification 749,505 is referred to.
