Abstract
836,864. Lathe-details. TAREX S.A. July 15, 1958 [Sept. 21, 1957], No. 22696/58. Class 83 (3). In an automatic lathe having a tool turrethead 13 carrying a device for transferring workpieces 4 from a magazine 8 into jaws 3 on a work-spindle 2, the device is lockable against rotation when opposite the magazine, and releasable when opposite the work-spindle so that the device can be rotated by said workspindle. The magazine is mounted in a recess 7 of a support 6, and has two pins 10 supporting the lowermost piece 4. The turret 13 has its axis at right angles to the work-spindle, and the device is held by a tool-holder 14 of the turret. The device consists of a head 20 rotatable in a bearing 21, and having a rod 22 carrying a locking member 24. The member 24 has locking-faces 25 and contacting-faces 26 engageable with faces 18, 19 of a head 17 of a fixed rod 15, a spring 29 tending to maintain the member 24 in alignment with the face 18. In use, the device is moved by a slide S towards the magazine, and a gripper, held by the head 20, enters the magazine. A piece 4 is gripped by a resilient member 27 of the gripper, which enters a bore in the piece, and by extensions 28 of the gripper, which hold the piece externally. On returning thes lide, the piece is extracted from the magazine, the head 20 having been prevented from rotation by engagement of faces 25, 18, which, on rotation of the turret through 180 degrees, disengage so that the head 20 is free to rotate. The spindle 2 has a hole 33 therein which engages a finger 34 on the head 20, causing rotation thereof. The piece is held by jaws 3 and the slide S is moved towards the magazine to allow rotation of the turret and so bring the series of tools into operation. As an alternative, a screwdriver, held by the spindle 2, could engage the slot of member 27 to drive the head 20.
