Abstract
836,266. Filters; gravity separation apparatus. MULLER, H. K. Dec. 5, 1957 [Feb. 5, 1957 ; Feb. 14, 1957], No. 37884/57. Addition to 802,255. Class 46. A gas or liquid is projected from a nozzle 7 on to filter elements 3, pervious on their upper sides only, to remove residues therefrom, in addition to the use of centrifugal force (by rotating the elements) with, optionally, reverse flushing by gas or liquid. The pipe 6 may be reciprocated by a rack-and pinion gear or, as shown, by a piston and cylinder mechanism. Working fluid is admitted above and below the piston 8 alternately, the movement being made automatic by a cycle regulator such as a change-over valve. As shown, the working fluid is the medium supplied to the nozzle 7, the pipe 6 being open to the cylinder 9. More than one nozzle may be provided, and in either case they may be fixed. When gas is used for residueremoval it may be followed by liquid for washing the elements. The residues collecting on the bottom of the casing 1 may be discharged by an injector 12 preferably arranged tangentially. It is stated to be known that scrapers made of wires or metal plates may be provided between filter elements, these scrapers initially rotating with the filter elements but then being braked from outside to effect relative movement with respect to the filter elements.
