Abstract
834,623. Glass-bending lehrs. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Feb. 25, 1958 [Feb. 26, 1957], No. 6032/58. Class 51 (2). A sheet-glass-bending lehr comprises a preheating zone 16, a bending zone 18, a temperature neutralizing zone 19, an annealing zone 20 including a reheating section 21 and a cooling zone 22 terminating in an unloading station 23, a controllable fan 40 being provided near the end of the cooling zone to blow sufficient air into the reheating section 21 to keep the air in the bending zone 18 quiescent. Moulds M are conveyed through the lehr by rollers 10. Overhead heaters 24 and 34 are respectively provided in the preheating zone 16 and the reheating section 21, with overhead heaters 25 and additional suspended heaters 26 and 28 in the bending zone. Heaters 25, 26, 28 and 34 have individual electric control circuits there being no heaters in the temperature neutralizing zone 19. The cooling zone has a corrugated asbestos roof 36 mounted on inverted T-bars 38 the last two of which carry the fan housing 42 provided with dampers 52. Ducting 54, 55 extends through roof 36 to a narrow nozzle 56 terminating in a slot 58 extending over the width of the lehr.
