834,062. Applying cigarette mouthpieces. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. July 9, 1957 [July 13, 1956], No. 21768/57. Class 130. In the machine described in Specification 833,908, in which assemblies of double-length mouthpieces flanked by cigarette rod lengths have uniting bands wrapped round them whilst they rotate in nests of rollers 18, 20 on a rotary drum 10, a shield 44 depending freely from the drum spindle 46 protects from falling particles of tobacco the assemblies on the lower part of the drum periphery where uniting occurs. The shield 44 has a portion 50 forming a ridge roof and carries in a clip 67 a felt, leather or canvas strip 52 held by a spring or a pivoted wieght 54 in contact with the inner rollers 20 to wipe them clean of adhesive. The shield 44 may also incorporate a suction head removing tobacco particles from the roof 50.
