Abstract
832,022. Sparking plugs; ignition systems. BOSCH G.m.b.H., R. Oct. 30, 1957 [Nov. 3, 1956; Sept. 20, 1957], No. 33806/57. Class 7(4) [Also in Group XXXVI] A suppressor has a casing 1 of insulating material with a recess 2 for receiving the end of an ignition cable which is secured by a pointed screw 3 having a knurled head 7. A bush 5 for attachment to a sparking plug is secured in recess 4, the suppressor resistor being wound on a support 6. The current-conducting parts of the resistor are intimately embedded in a sheath 8 of thermosetting'synthetic resin to prevent corona discharge. The resistance coil is secured by a metal cap 6<SP>1</SP> which is fixed to an attachment on the head 7. Turns of the resistance, wire are wound between the convolutions of helical spring 9 which establishes electrical contact with the plug-bush 5. The section of the support 6 carrying the spring is stepped so that the sheath 8 has substantially the same thickness throughout its length. The section of the casing enclosing the sparking plug is coated internally with a layer 11 of polyester resin to prevent leakage currents. A suitable synthetic resin for the sheath 8 consists of a mixture of polyester resin with a suspension agent and a hardener such as benzoyl peroxide. In another arrangement, the resistor has two metal terminal caps and is inserted into a prefabricated casing of insulating material, synthetic resin being injected into the space between the inner wall of the casing and the resistor, so that the casing locates, without an intervening gap, the sheath within which the resistor is embedded, Fig. 2 (not shown). A mixture of a polyester resin with kaolin, with an admixture of a catalyst, is suitable for this purpose. The casing 1 may be moulded directly around the suppressor resistor, an alkyd resin powder being suitable, Fig. 3 (not shown). A metal casing 12 enclosing the sparking plug is provided with a spring washer 13.
