Abstract

831,568. Pipe couplings. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO. Ltd. May 8, 1958 [July 1, 1957], No. 20696/57. Class 99(1). A self aligning coupling comprises releasable parts 1 and 2, one of which, e.g. the female part 1, has radially-extending fingers 15 in spring- loaded abutment with a rigidly-mounted ring- like support 16 permitting movement of the part 1. The springs 19 are disposed between the fingers 15 and are connected to lugs 10a, 16a, and the male part 2, is secured by the nuts 21 or can be spring-mounted to engage with a rigidly-mounted female part. When the probe 12 is inserted in throat portion 13 it engages the stem 8 of a spring-loaded disc valve 6 and lifts the valve from its seating 7 to allow fluid flow, and a sealing ring 14 engages the probe 12 to seal the coupling. A similarly operated valve can be fitted to the probe 12 or alternatively this may be a non-return valve lifted by the fluid-flow.
