A combined ignition and lighting switch for motor vehicles comprises a metal housing 10 having an insulating base 11 secured by projections 12 in bayonet slots. In the base are embedded fixed contacts 13, 14 angularly-spaced in concentric outer and inner rows, certain of the contacts being interconnected. Angularlymovable contacts 20, 25 have projections 21, 26 which engage either recessed ends of fixed contacts 13, 14 or recesses in the base 11. The contacts 20, 25 are rotated by insulating-blocks 22, 27 by means of tongues 23, 25a received in notches in the blocks, the blocks and their associated contacts being separated by springs 24, 28. On the housing 10 is mounted an angularly-movable finger-piece 29 with a boss 30, to which is secured an annular metal ring 31 with a flange 32 engaging an attachment plate 33 secured to the housing 10. The block 22 is rotated by the finger-piece 29 by means of tongues 34 (Fig. 6, not shown) which extend from the ring 31 through arcuate slots 35 in the housing 10 to engage notches in the block 22. The angular spacing and size of the tongues 23, 25a, and 34 (not shown), is such as to prevent their engagement with their associated receiving notches, except at one angular setting. Within the boss 30 is mounted a lock 36 operable by a key 37 and having an extension 38 engaging a hole in the block 27, so that angular movement of the lock 36 rotates the block 27. This movement is limited to 90 degrees by a shoulder 39 (Fig. 6, not shown) on the central hole in the housing 10, through which the part 38 extends.
