Abstract
The invention comprises complex metal compounds obtainable by reacting a dyestuff of the formula <FORM:0830970/IV(c)/1> (in which X is an OH or COOH group and in which the benzene nucleus A may be substituted by halogen atoms or alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, sulphonamido, acylamino, or sulphone groups) with a salt or hydroxide of a metal of atomic number 24-29 in the presence of an amine or organic acid amide. The complex metal compounds so obtained may be mixed with diazoamino compounds obtainable by condensing a diazo or tetrazo derivative of an amine, free from hydroxy, carboxy, or sulphonic groups, with a compound of the formula <FORM:0830970/IV(c)/2> in which the benzene nucleus B may be substituted by halogen atoms, X1 is a carboxyalkyl or hydroxyalkyl group, and Y is hydrogen or a metal yielding a water-soluble salt. The complex metal compounds and the mixtures may be used in printing pastes for the coloration of cellulosic textile material, the colour being developed in a neutral atmosphere. The mixtures may be dissolved in a dilute alkali and, wen the solution thus obtained is used with a thickening agent and is printed on cotton or other natural or artificial cellulosic material and the fabric is dried and subjected to the action of steam, a development of brown shades showing good general fastness is observed. Amines and amides specified include ethanolamines, propanolamines, diethylethanolamine, formamide, dimethylformamide, cyclohexyamine, and pyridine. A solution of a complex salt of the metal with a mineral or organic acid and with the amine or amide may be separately prepared and then added to the aqueous solution of the dyestuff, or the metal salt or hydroxide may be reacted with the dyestuff in solution in the amine or amide, or the metal hydroxide may be reacted in suspension in the aqueous dye solution in presence of the amine or amide. In an example, 2,21,41-trihydroxyazobenzene in solution in aqueous caustic soda is treated with a solution of cobalt sulphate and monoethanolamine and the complex of the dye is precipitated by adding hydrochloric acid. The separated complex is mixed with a diazoamino compound obtained by condensing the diazo compound of p-chloro-o-aminoanisole with N-(2-carboxyphenyl)-glycine. The mixture is made into a paste with caustic soda solution and ethyl alcohol, then dissolved by adding warm water and thickened by adding a starchtragacanth thickener. Sodium chromate is also added. A cellulosic fabric is printed with the paste so obtained and the colour is developed by steaming. Other examples describe the preparation of metal complexes and printing pastes using copper sulphate, formamide, diethanolamine, diethylethanolamine, cyclohexylamine, pyridine, 5-chloro-2,21,41-trihydroxyazobenzene, and 4-nitro-2,2,41-trihydroxy-azobenzene, alternatives for the metal salt, amide or amine, or dyestuff. Other diazoamino compounds which may be used include the condensation product of 5-chloro-2-methyl-aniline with N-(2-carboxy-4,6-dichlorophenyl)-glycine, and that of 5-dimethylsulphonamide-2 - methylaniline with N - (b - hydroxyethyl)-anthranilic acid. Specifications 729,156, 729,157, 729,158, 740,579, 753,591, 766,609 and 771,070 are referred to.
