Abstract
830,668. Typewriters &c. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS & TABULATORS Ltd. Nov. 1, 1957 [Dec. 19, 1956], No. 38705/56. Class 100(4) A paper feeding mechanism for a machine in which imprinting is effected, as by stylii, on a constant speed continuously fed paper, has an auxiliary feed driving means provided to increase the feed speed to produce multiple line spacing. Continuously stationery 1 is fed at a constant speed over a platen 8 and under stylii 3 by pin wheels 4 rotated by gears 9, 10 from a drive shaft 11. The shaft 11 is driven at a constant speed from the main machine drive by a shaft 21 through a differential gearing 12, 17, while an auxiliary drive from a shaft 23 through a differential gearing 13. 18, increases the speed of the shaft 11 to produce multiple line spacing. The shaft 23 is driven by a ratchet wheel 24 acted on by a pawl 25 attached to an arm 26 secured to a gear wheel 27 loose on the shaft 23 and engaged by a rack 29. A cam 32 on a shaft 33 rotating at the speed of the shaft 21 acts through a follower 34 and links 35, 37, 38, on the rack 29. A crank 41 is pivoted at 40 to the link 38, which is in turn pivoted at 39 to the rack 29, and is engaged either by a neutral pin 44 coaxial with the pivot 39 in the datum position of the rack 29 or by one of a series of secondary pins 45, Fig. 6 (not shown), which can be inserted in corresponding holes 43 in the crank 41. When the pin 44 is engaged in the crank 41 the cam 32 does not produce any movement of the rack 29 but when one of the pins 45 is engaged a movement is caused which on the return of the rack 29 causes the stationary feed speed to increase to effect multiple line spacing. Insertion of one of the pins 45 is effected by electromagnets controlled by an electric circuit including two manually settable switches made operative by a cyclically operated timing switch through either a machine or a manually controlled additional switch. Electromagnets also control an interrupter 46 which prevents movement of the auxiliary feed linkage and of an interposer which renders mechanism for selecting the pins 45 operative.
