Abstract
829,339. Thermionic cathode constructions. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 1, 1958 [Oct. 4, 1957 ; March 13, 1958], No. 31349/58. Class 39(1). An equipotential cathode consist of touching turns 10 of a tungstenthorium wire, the turns being covered with solder 11 on the side adjacent the heater, and ground off to half their thickness on the emissive side, so that said side has a smooth continuous surface. In Fig. 2, the cathode is helically wound to form a cylinder, but it may be in disc form, which may further be either flat or dished, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The solder may be molybdenum carbide, which may also contain powdered molybdenum. The cathode may be heated by electron bombardment.
