Abstract

828,994. Moulding footwear &c. BRITISH BATA SHOE CO. Ltd. April 22, 1958 [May 7, 1957], No. 12676/58. Class 87(2). A machine for moulding plastic articles such as footwear and adapted to work in combination with apparatus for supplying molten plastic material to a mould and incorporating an injection nozzle, comprises a carriage 3 on which is mounted a rotatable platform 1 carrying a number of angularly equi-spaced mould holders 2, mechanism for rotating the platform step-bystep to bring the mould holders one-by-one into register with the nozzle and for locking the platform between steps, and means for moving the carriage to and from the apparatus to bring the registering mould holder into engagement with the nozzle while the platform is locked. The carriage 3, mounted on rails 4, is driven by motor 10 through an eccentric-and-rod mechanism 6, 18 connected to a stationary anchorage 7, the motor 10 also driving a maltese-cross mechanism 9, 14 which rotates and locks the platform 1. The mould holder parts 22, 22A and the mould cover 23 (Fig. 4,) are closed by the action of two ramps 20, 20A on rollers carried by a vertical slide rod 21 and a spring-pressed lever 21A, respectively, the cover being clamped to the body of the holder by a double-acting piston 24 carrying jaws 26 and the mould holder parts clamped to the injection nozzle 28 by spring- loaded jaws 27. Suitably positioned switch devices actuated by the moving parts of the machine control the movements and operations in timed sequence as a continuously recurring cycle.
