2a ,4b - Dibromo - 17a - hydroxy - pregnane-3,11,20-trione is prepared by dibrominating 17a -hydroxy-pregnane-3,11,20-trione in the 2a ,4b positions in a dioxane medium or by monobrominating 4b -bromo-17a -hydroxy-pregnane-3,11,20-trione in the 2a -position in a dioxane medium. Two detailed examples are given. Specification 760,362 also is referred to.
