Abstract
A hard film rust-preventative composition comprises 99 to 95% by weight of a solvent cut-back asphalt and from 1 to 5% of an iron soap of an oxidized petrolatum having preferably a saponification member of 60 to 110 and an acid member of 20 to 50. The asphalt may be a reduced asphalt having a penetration of between 21-30 or 61-70, which may be oxidized to have a softening point in the range 160 DEG to 170 DEG F. Preferred solvents are aromatic petroleum solvents, e.g. petroleum naphtha boiling within the range 200 DEG to 600 DEG F., preferably 275 DEG to 425 DEG F., and comprising from 36% to 55%, preferably 38% to 42%, by weight of the composition.ALSO:A hard film rust-preventitive composition comprises 99 to 95% by weight of a solvent cutback asphalt and from 1 to 5% by weight of an iron soap of an oxidized petroleum having preferably a saponification number of 60 to 110 and an acid number of 20 to 50. The asphalt may be a reduced asphalt having a penetration of between 21-30 or 61-70 which may be oxidized to have a softening point in the range 160 to 170 DEG F. Preferred solvents are aromatic petroleum solvents, e.g. petroleum naphtha boiling with the range 200 to 600 DEG F. preferably 275 to 425 DEG F., and comprising from 36 to 55% and preferably 38 to 42% by weight of the composition.
