Abstract
828,316. Railway vehicle undercarriages; air springs. GENERAL STEEL CASTINGS CORPORATION. July 16, 1956, No. 21960/56. Classes 103(6) and 108(3) A railway vehicle bogie includes a truck frame, a transverse bolster having a central bearing for one end of a vehicle body, spaced wheel axles, equalizers at the sides of the bogie extending between and supported from the axles, spring structures mounted directly on the equalizers and supporting the frame, and spring structures mounted directly on the frame at each side of the bogie adjacent opposite sides of the bolster and supporting the latter at least one of the spring structures at each side of the bogie comprising a flexible walled pneumatic chamber. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the equalizers 7 have seats 14 for coil springs 13 supporting the truck frame 8, 9, each side 8 of the frame having a bracket 15 forming a seat for an air reservoir 19 for pneumatic spring chambers 16, 17 which support a bracket 23 on the end of the bolster 22. The chambers are connected by a web 18 provided with restricted ports 20. The end of the bolster is anchored to a frame transom 10 by a device 21. If desired the bolster may be supported by coil springs and the frame supported by pneumatic springs. In another embodiment all springs are pneumatic but those supporting the frame are formed as two pairs of short chambers whilst the bolster is supported by an elongated pair similar to the pair 16, 17, Fig. 3. The reservoirs for the short pairs are disposed between the bars 7. In a still further embodiment the frame is supported at each side by an elongated pair of pneumatic spring chambers whilst the bolster is supported at each end by two pairs of short pneumatic spring chambers.
