Abstract
828,145. Electrophotoluminescent amplifiers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 10, 1958 [June 13, 1957], No. 18521/58. Class 39(1). [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL(c)] In a device for amplifying electric power, the electric power is supplied to the electrodes of an electrophotoluminescent element 3 which is irradiated preferably by light of short wavelength, e.g. ultra-violet light, this element being combined with a photosensitive element 4, e.g. of cadmium sulphide, the impedance of which is varied by the field modulated luminescence, so that an amplified voltage may be derived from a load impedance 8. If the luminescent material is zinccadmium-sulphide activated with copper and chlorine it is possible to use daylight for the continuous irradiation. The voltage to be amplified is preferably modulated on an alternating voltage of comparatively high frequency but modulation on carrier oscillation is not necessary if the luminescent layer exhibits field extinction a suitable phosphor being zinc-cadmium selenide activated with silver and chlorine which also contains certain other elements such as iron, cobalt or nickel.
