826,987. Electric motor control systems. CLARKE CHAPMAN & CO. Ltd., and HOWLETT, F. C. Oct. 2, 1957 [Oct. 11, 1956], No. 31041/56. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXXV] In a creep speed control arrangement for an A.C. winch or hoist motor comprising an electromagnetically released brake acting on the shaft of the motor a D.C. motor coupled to the shaft is connected in series with the brake coil in a direction whereby the braking effect is increased owing to the change in B.E.M.F. as the speed of the A.C. motor increases. D.C. motor 14 which is driven by the three-phase motor 1 is inserted in series with braking coil 18 on the initial steps of controller 13 during hoisting or lowering by relays HC or LC respectively, the brake coil 18 being fed from across two phases of the motor supply through a transformer 16 and rectifier 17. A resistance 19 is substituted for the D.C. generator on the last two steps of the controller. The insertion of rotor resistances 5, 6 is controlled by relays 10-12. A development of a controller drum suitable for gravity lowering is described with reference to Fig. 2 (Provisional) (not shown), and a system using a cross-field D.C. motor whereby reversal of the control circuit with reversal of the motor direction is avoided, is described with reference to the Figure accompanying the Complete Specification (not shown).
