826,637. Container-filling machines. NIEPMANN, F., and NIEPMANN, F. [trading as MASCHINENFABRIK F. NIEPMANN & CO], and DYNAMIT-ACTIENGESELLSCHAFT, VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. March 23, 1956, No. 9233/56. Class 94(1). [Also in Groups XXI and XXX] In apparatus as in Specification 826,636 comprising a hopper 1 from which explosive is fed to a nozzle by a conveyer screw 2 having a continuation 11 extending through the nozzle, the drive of the screw 11 can be reversed to cut off the supply of explosive to a cartridge case 8 pushed over the nozzle by a ram 10. The spindle of screw 2 may be hollow and may house the drive end of spindle 11 so that the two spindles can be driven independently. As the case fills it moves back into a pocket 7 of a rotary conveyer 5 and when filling is completed the screw 11 is reversed to produce a sudden separation of the main body of explosive from the cartridge, the leading end of the screw being provided with a cutting edge 13. This edge is transverse to the axis of the screw for powder fillings. For plastic charges the edge may be inclined at 15 degrees to the transverse plane.
