Abstract

826,012. Moulding resin-fibre articles. AMERICAN VISCOSE CORPORATION. Jan. 30, 1956 [March 29, 1955], No. 2902/56. Class 87(2). [Also in Group VIII] A shaped article, e.g. a car bumper, crash helmet, tube or rod is moulded from a fibrous web comprising reinforcing fibres and thermoplastic or partially cured thermosetting fibres, the thermoplastic fibres being in excess of the reinforcing fibres, under heat and pressure, e.g. between dies 6, 7 having electric heating coils 8. Alternatively, the web may be moulded by a bag-moulding process. The reinforcing fibres may be of glass, rock, asbestos or metal. The thermoplastic fibres may be of cellulose esters, ethers or ether-esters, silicone, vinyl, acrylic, styrene, polyethylene or polyamide resins. The partially cured thermosetting resins may be urea or melamine formaldehyde, dialkyl diglycollate, polyester, diallyl phthalate, phthalate or alkyd resins. The web may comprise layers of different fibres or they may be intermixed. The dies may be coated with "Cellophane" or "Teflon" (Registered Trade Marks) or a silicone resin. The finished article may be sprayed with a resin. Specification 794,726 [Group VIII] and U.S.A. Specification 2,477,675 are referred to.
