Abstract
825,488. Sinking and aligning submerged structures. CHRISTIANI & NIELSEN. April 4, 1957 [Aug. 20, 1956], No. 11024/57. Class 68(2) Means for sinking a large structural element, e.g. a pipe element 1, in water 2 of known depth without resorting to filling the element 1 with water comprises one, or more, stabilizing tanks 3, Fig. 5, which are open at the top and are secured, e.g. by bolts, or clamps, to the element 1, ballast being distributed in the various tanks to stabilize and maintain the trim of the element 1 during sinking. The tanks are of such a height that they will project above the surface of the water when the element 1 has been sunk to the bottom 4. When only one tank is employed, Fig. 2, it is preferably sub-divided by partitions 5 which extend throughout the entire height of the tank to form compartments into which ballast can be loaded to control the sinking and maintain the trim of the element. 1
