Abstract

825,430. Valves. PARKINSON & COWAN Ltd. Nov. 8, 1957 [Nov. 23, 1956], No. 35837/56. Class 135. A needle valve comprises a tubular body 3 closed at its lower ends with radial inlet and outlet ports 6, 7 respectively below and above a valve seat 2 and a needle valve member 12 screw-threaded at 10 in the upper end of the body, angular movement being limited to less than 360 degrees by stops 18, 19 (Fig. 1, not shown). A helical metal strip 16 frictionally secured in the body and bearing on the needle valve, urges the valve sideways to touch one side of the seating. This ensures that the orifice between the valve and its seat is of constant shape allowing an accurate flow for a given setting of the valve member as indicated by a dial on its actuating lmob 13.
