In a lost-wax moulding process, a preformed refractory sprue block 1 is attached to the pattern sprue, and the investment 3 is applied so as to attach itself to said block. The block may be of cement-, silica-, phosphate-, magnesia-, plaster-bonded refractories, graphite, or metal. It may be made in several pieces, pressed around the pattern sprue, or the pattern sprue may be screwed, or injected, into the block.
