Abstract

823,631. Thermal switches. WUERTH, R. C. April 1, 1958, No. 10369/58. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XL (c)] A switch for initially limiting the current to the filaments of electron tubes or electric light bulbs, comprises a resistance 10 arranged to be connected in series with the filaments, and supporting a bi-metal strip 14 connected thereto at 12. The bi-metal carries a contact 17 which, as the resistance heats up and deflects the bimetal, engages a fixed contact 18 connected to the other end of the resistance at 13, thereby short-circuiting the resistance. The resulting current through the bi-metal is sufficient to keep it deflected. The resistance is preferably embedded in a refractory body 11, as shown, and the bi-metal may be replaced by a bellows.
