Abstract

823,199. Grinding ; sawing. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. Feb. 18, 1958 [March 1, 1957], No. 5269/58. Classes 60 and 145. A multi-purpose tool for removing flashes and burrs, grinding, polishing, sawing &c. has an endless working band guided over a driving pulley and an end pulley, the end pulley being mounted on a spring-loaded member slidable in an arm adjustable about the axis of the driving pulley. The endless working band 10, which may be an abrasive band or a band saw, passes round pulleys 9, 11. The pulley 9 is carried by a shaft 7 mounted in bearings 8 in a frame 1 and driven through spur gears 17, 18 and bevel gears 20, 21 by an electric motor 2 secured to the frame 1. An arm 3 is mounted on the frame 1 for movement about an axis coincident with that of the shaft 7, the arm being retained in desired position by a spring loaded ball 4. The pulley 11 is carried by a part 12 having a stem 13 sliding in the arm 3 and urged outwardly by a spring 14 to tension the band ; the pulley can be retracted by a cable 15 to enable the band to be removed. In a modification, Fig. 3, the arm 3 is secured to the frame 1 by threaded members 24, 25 and is retained in position by a spring-loaded catch 28 operated by knob 30. The machine may be hand held or fixed to a support.
