Abstract
823,030. Coaxial line terminations. BIRD ELECTRONIC CORPORATION. Oct. 4, 1955 [Oct. 4, 1954], No. 9846/59. Divided out of 823,028. Class 40 (8). A transmission line is joined to an attenuating section by a coupling section which includes an electrically conductive tube made of a material, e.g. stainless steel, of comparatively low heat conductivity. The attenuating section may be of the type described in Specification 823,028, having a lossy inner conductor 18 coaxial with a tapering outer conductor 16, the whole section being immersed in a tank 11 of liquid dielectric coolant. The attenuating section is made liquid-tight by an annular dielectric bush 33 which is clamped at its inner periphery between shoulders on the end of the inner conductor assembly 18 and on a cap 53. The outer periphery of the bush is clamped between the end 41 of the outer conductor of the coupling section and a shoulder 35 on a ring 23 brazed to the end of the outer conductor 16. This closure arrangement is fully described in Specification 823,029. The outer conductor of the coupling assembly comprises tubular sections 36, 38, 39, the section 36 being terminated in a conventional coaxial line coupling device (not shown). The section 39 is a thin cylinder of stainless steel and serves to prevent transmission of heat from the attenuating section 16, 18. The sections 36, 38, 39 are welded together. The inner conductor of the coupling assembly includes a tubular member 59 terminated at one end in resilient fingers 89 which grip the clamping cap 53. At the opposite end it is attached to a plug 61 which together with cap 64 forms a clamp for the inner periphery of an annular dielectric spacing- member 62. A further extension 98 of the inner conductor carries resilient fingers 99 which grip the cap 64.
