Abstract

In a friction damped relief valve a valve head 8 is urged towards a seating 6 by a spring 16 which abuts a sleeve 15 frictionally contractable upon the stem in accordance with spring force, the force being adjustable by means of a screwed plug 10, against which the conical face 17 of the sleeve abuts so that the radial component of force causes the contraction. Preferably the sleeve has a conical angle of 40 degrees and is divided longitudinally into three equiangular sectors.
