Abstract
820,964. Photo-electric positioning apparatus. KÍRBER, K. Aug. 28, 1956 [Nov. 23, 1955], No. 26247/56. Class 40 (3). A method of checking the position of cigarettes or other rod-like articles wherein two points of each cigarette are examined photo-electrically and a difference signal produced which controls inverting,' reversing or ejecting mechanisms. Light from a source 1 is reflected from the brand marking 5 and another part 4 of a cigarette 6 on to photo-cells, selenium cells or phototransistors 10, 12. The currents produced are fed into a measuring bridge and the difference current used to control mechanisms which are inactive if there is a signal of one sense, reverse the cigarette if there is a signal of opposite sense or invert the cigarette about its axis if the signals are equal. A second device reverses an inverted cigarette if the marking is still at the wrong end.
