Abstract
820,587. Welding electrode holders. WELLS, M. April 1, 1957 [Aug. 7, 1956], No. 10524/57. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] A welding electrode holder comprising two levers hingedly connected together so that electrode-gripping jaws are urged together by spring means rearward of the hinge is characterized by the provision of insulating means on the levers for preventing current flow therebetween at the point of their hinge connection and through the spring means. As shown, levers 10 and 11 are connected at 12 by a removable hinge pin 33 and have jaws 13 and 14 which are urged together by the action of a spring 37. The lever 10 is of conductive metal and has an offset handle 28 with a cable-connecting socket 62. The lever 11 is of metal-reinforced insulating material and has an integral tubular moulded wall 35 which receives the upper part of the spring 37 the lower part of which is housed in an insulating cup 38 having a flat bottom wall with a central recess to receive a conical projection 24 on the lever 10. The hinge pin 33 passes through a metal tube 33a which is embedded in the insulating material of the lever 11 so that current is prevented from passing between the levers. A replaceable insulator 45 covers the bottom, end and sides of the lever 10 upon which it is slid into position, notches 42 in the bottom wall of the cup 38 alowing it to pass under the cup. Projecting shoulders 41 are brought into position over the side walls 48 of the insulator 45, to prevent its endwise movement, by the rotation of the cup 38 through an angle of 90 degrees.
