Abstract
820,543. Waveguides. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. April 13, 1956 [April 15, 1955], No. 10967/55. Class 40 (8). Waveguides of the type formed by deposition of metal upon dielectric cores are provided with metallic coupling flanges &c., precautions being taken to avoid cracks in the deposited metal at the point where it joins the coupling flange. As shown, a coupling flange 2 is pressed on to a dielectric core 1 before deposition of metal on the core. The flange is provided with a feathered edge 4 in order to obviate a sharp re-entrant corner at the edge 3. A layer 6 of dielectric varnish or cement is then applied over the junction and the subsequent metallic coating 5 is extended over the layer 6. The length of the overlap of the metal coating upon the flange is adjusted to provide a choke joint whereby a short circuit is in effect provided at the edge 3. Continuous measurement of the standing wave ratio is made as the metal is trimmed.
