Abstract
Threads, films and like products are made from viscose containing in solution one or more products obtained by the reaction of amines with epoxyalkanes in a ratio of at least 4 molecules of epoxyalkane per amino group. The viscose is extruded into an acid bath containing more than 3% by weight of a zinc salt, the ratio of the percentage by weight of acid in the bath and the percentage by weight of alkali in the viscose lying between 1.3 and 0.8, and the resulting products are stretched. Suitably, the viscose contains more than 0.1% of one or more compounds of the formula <FORM:0820273/IV (a)/1> where R1 is an aliphatic, alicyclic or heterocyclic group and R2 and R3 are alkylene oxide chains of the formula (CnH2nO)xH, where x and n may be different for R2 and R3, but x should be at least 4 in the case of R2 and at least 1 in the case of R3. Other suitable additives are specified. The spinning bath may also contain other salts, e.g. sodium or magnesium sulphate. Examples are given.
