Abstract
819,829. Animal holding appliances. BAGSHAWE, P. P. Jan. 30, 1958 [Feb. 1, 1957], No. 3492/57. Class 81 (2). Apparatus for use in lifting the hind quarters of an animal by lifting tackle connected to it comprises a pair of interconnected frames each shaped to engage under the hook bones of the animal and means to progressively close the frames towards one another to grip the animal. U-shaped tubular steel frames comprising parallel arms 10, 10a interconnected at their lower ends by cross-pieces 11, 11a are pivotal at their upper ends on a first bolt 13. A tubular cross-arm 16 of a T-piece is mounted on a second bolt 17 interconnecting the arms 10 of one frame intermediate its ends. The stem 18 of the T-piece loosely carries a cross-bar 19. When the frames are placed one on each side of the hindquarters of the animal (around the hook bones of the pelvis in the case of cattle) the cross-bar 19 is tightened against the other frame under lugs 20 by a wing-nut 21 on threads 22 of the stem 18. Lifting tackle is connected to a loop 15 fitted on the first bolt 13. The cross-pieces 11, 11a of the frames may be padded.
