Abstract
819,604. Supply systems for discharge vessels. DORTMUND - HORDER HUTTENUNION A.G. March 15, 1957 [March 17, 1956], No. 8648/57. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XL (a)] A glow discharge vessel 10 for treating workpieces is supplied from a D.C. supply 47, 54 across which is connected a resistor 61 and a capacitor 62, the discharge vessel being connected across the capacitor in series with an inductor 64. When the glow discharge breaks into an arc, the additional current through resistor 61 causes the voltage across vessel 10 to fall, and this is further reduced by the oscillatory swing of components 62, 64 to a value low enough to extinguish the arc. An additional resistor 65 which may consist entirely of the cable resistance may be connected in series with the inductor 64. A further resistor 68 supplies an auxiliary electrode 32 reducing the striking voltage. The value of resistor 61 may be reduced if an additional inductor 60 is connected in series. Suitable values for the components are given in the Specification.
