Abstract
819,389. Filters. BREWING PATENTS Ltd. March 6, 1958 [March 7, 1957], No. 7673/57. Class 46. Liquid-solid mixture (e.g. malt extract and spent grain) is introduced at 1 and passes downwards through a spider 10 on to a disc 16 rotating rapidly within a fixed ring 5. Liquid passes through the annular gap (e.g. of the order of 0À001 inch wide) between them and is discharged from the space 4a through a pipe 20 by the motion of the disc assisted by vanes 19 on its under surface. The rotation of the disc also serves to agitate the mixture and to keep the annular gap free from solids. Solids are continuously removed through a tube 2 by a rotating worm 3. Where the disc and ring are bevelled, as shown, the size of the gap may be varied by longitudinal adjustment of the disc shaft 15 by means of parts 21 to 24.
