Abstract

819,319. Copying inks. CREED & CO. Ltd. Sept. 7, 1956 [Sept. 12, 1955], No. 27467/56. Class 146(3) In non-smudging copying ink compositions for typewriter ribbons used to make a printed record to be scanned by a photocell and transmitted by facsimile, the usual carbon black pastes or soluble dyestuffs are replaced by certain specified water insoluble paste dyes dissolved in an oily solvent and used in conjunction with a metallic salt e.g. nitrates or sulphates of iron, copper, silver, cadmium, bismuth, molybdenum, aluminium, antimony, tin, lead, zinc, nickel which react with a suitable reagent e.g. potassium ferrocyanide tannic acid, sodium chromate, dimethyl glyoxime, diphenyl carbazidepho-salicylic acid, nitroso salts &c. applied in solution to the copy paper to give a highly coloured compound on the paper which is suitable for photocell scanning. The specified paste dyes are "Black oleate", "Oil Black Dl", "Oil Black 79 T01" (all obtainable from Dye Specialities Inc.), "Oil Black" (American Cyanamid Co.), and "Black Patte" (Ansbacher Eiegle Corp.). "Oily" solvents specified are oleic acid, cotton seed oil, mineral oil of suitable viscosity dibutyl tartrate, dicetyl phthalate and triacetin.
