Abstract

819,317. Joint-making packing. SMITH (WA.TERPROOFERS) Ltd., G. H. June 17, 1957 [July 17, 1956]. No. 22102/56. Class 122 (3). A sealing ring is made of a thermoplastic synthetic polymer, for example polythene as sold under the Registered Trade Mark " Alkathene," and has a cylindrical inner circumferential surface 1 and flat parallel end faces 1a with bevelled outer margins 2. The ring may be reinforced either by having a metal ring, which may be of copper, preferably embedded in the outer peripheral wall or by incorporating reinforcing material in the ring during manufacture. For sealing the bolt hole in adjoining tunnel segments connected by a nut and bolt, one ring according to the invention is placed under the bolt head and one under the nut.
