Abstract

818,953. Electric motors for toys. LINES BROS. Ltd. Jan. 13, 1958 [Jan. 22, 1957], No. 2309/57. Class 132(3) [Also in Group XXXV] An electric motor for model ships or vehicles has a cylindrical insulating casing 4 embraced by a closely fitting insulating ring 7 carrying contacts 9, 10 which, upon turning the ring in the appropriate direction selectively engage the motor terminals 5, 6 to produce motor rotation, in either direction if the motor is reversible. As shown, the contacts 9, 10 comprise phosphor bronze strips mounted on the inside of ring 7 and secured by bringing their ends out through axial slots 14, 15, 16, 17, two of these ends also serving as connections to supply leads 11, 12. The ring 7 is provided with a turning lug 8 which co-operates with a slot in a cover (not shown) to locate the ring axially. The ring may be of moulded plastic, e.g. cellulose acetate, it may be split, and it may be provided with four contacts instead of two for use with a two speed motor.
