Abstract

818,553. Reciprocating pumps. PROGRESS ENGINEERS Ltd. Jan 27., 1958 [Jan. 28, 1957], No. 2911/57 Class 102(1). Two hydraulically actuated pumps A and B deliver to a common outlet. The pumps are actuated by hydraulic fluid fed by lines 27, 28, 30, 31 to rams such that the pump pistons move in opposite sense, the valve 26 controlling of the fluid being actuated in accordance with the position of the piston of pump A, as described in Specification 677,136. As the outlet pressure increases the time taken for the working stroke of the pump pistons increases while the time for the return stroke remains substantially constant hence the pump B does not complete a full working stroke after a predetermined outlet pressure is reached. Buffers 35 are provided on pump B to prevent damage of the pump. Automatic or manual control may be provided to render the pump B inoperative at a predetermined outlet pressure.
