Abstract
817,651. Change -speed control. NSU WERKE A.G. Dec. 19, 1956 [Dec. 21, 1955], No. 38701/56. Class 80 (2). To select a ratio in a motor car change-speed and reverse gear, a handle 1 is operated in one plane to turn a rod 2 so that a two-armed selector member 3 fast therewith engages one of three bell-crank levers 5, 6, 7, operation of the handle in a second plane perpendicular to the first sliding the rod 2 axially to pivot the selected bell-crank lever so that a striker fork 9 establishes the ratio. A forked interlock plate 14 turns with the rod 2 but is prevented from sliding with it, and locks the bell-crank levers 5 &c. not selected in neutral position. The selector member 3 is formed with a number of holes, one of which engages one of a pair of guide pins 4 when the selected ratio is established. To select reverse, the handle 1 and rod 2 are turned so that a resilient stop 10 on an arm 11 fast with the rod pushes against a similar resilient stop 13 on the gear-box casing 12. Having overcome the resistance of the contacting resilient stops, the handle 1 can then be operated to slide the rod 2 axially and establish reverse.
