Abstract
817,550. Endless-chain conveyers. MEYER MANUFACTURING CO., G. J. sept. 4, 1957 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 27915/57. Class 78 (1). In apparatus for spacing articles uniformly on a constantly moving conveyer C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> before delivery to processing means comprising a rotary worm of increasing pitch, when the articles leave this worm, they are engaged by a worm of constant pitch arranged to impart to each article, as it leaves the spacing worm, a linear velocity equal to that of the conveyer. Similar worms F, F<SP>1</SP> are mounted on parallel shafts 15, 16 and the articles A pass between them. Each worm consists of sections I, II and III, the first of which is of constant pitch, the second is of increasing pitch and the third is of constant pitch. In section I the wall W of the helical groove is substantially perpendicular to the axis and the other wall W<SP>1</SP> slopes from its intersection with the wall W outwardly to the periphery of the screw. The width of the wall W<SP>1</SP> is approximately that of the side face of the article. In section II the width of the wall W<SP>1</SP> increases gradually. In section III the worm has a square thread. The worms F, F<SP>1</SP> are relatively reversed and so arranged that when an article enters the space between them, the forward face of the article is adjacent to the wall W of the screw F<SP>1</SP>. The end of the screw 16 carries a helical brush 59 which (1) assists the return of an article to the position A4, (2) urges it towards the rear wall W<SP>3</SP> of the screw F; and (3) presses the article firmly against the upper surface of the conveyer. Specification 805,074 is referred to.
