Abstract
816,719. Electric inclinometers. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. March 27, 1957 [April 5, 1956; April 26, 1956], No. 10061/57. Class 40 (1). An inclinometer comprises two porous carbon electrodes 17, 19 (Fig. 1) supported by a bridge 15 in an hermetically sealed, circular, glass housing 10 containing an electrolyte, preferably a solution of sodium iodide in methyl alcohol, a third carbon electrode 21 being contained at the bottom of the housing. The resistance between each electrode 17, 19 and the base electrode 21 are normally equal, and vary differentially with tilt about the axis of the housing 10. The change in resistance is large for small angles of tilt, until the dipping electrode becomes saturated with the electrolyte, and then continues linearly and slowly.
