Abstract
816,671. Fluid-actuated valves. HOBOURNEATON MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Oct. 13, 1955 [Nov. 29, 1954], No. 34506/54. Class 135. A fluid control unit adapted to be connected to the suction and delivery passages of a pump and also to a closed loop circuit comprises a valve body or casing 1 having a valve chamber 2 in which are arranged two telescopically related hollow valve members 9, 10A, the outer one, 9, functioning as a flow control member and opening against a spring 14 to by-pass fluid from the pump delivery back to the pump suction through an annular passage 5 when the pressure drop across a flow control orifice exceeds a predetermined value, and the other hollow valve l0A functioning as a relief valve and opening against a spring 15 to pass fluid out through ports 13 and the chamber 5 when the pressure in the closed loop circuit exceeds a predetermined value. The pump delivery is connected through the threaded boss 4 to an annular chamber 3 and the closed loop circuit is connected to the chamber 2 through a union 8. As shown in Fig. 3, the flow control orifice is formed as a restricted orifice 21 in the valve member 10A. It may, however, be formed as a number of small radial holes in the valve member 9 in place of the ports 22. The outer or left-hand end of the valve member 10A is of slightly larger diameter than the inner end. The valve member 10A abuts a spring-retaining ring 16 when closed. The collar 19 on the valve member 9 and the annular chamber 20 form a dashpot to which the fluid has a restricted access. In another arrangement the valve member 10A has ends of appreciably different diameter, the loading spring 15 acting on the smaller area and also on a flanged ring which maintains a fixed throttling rod in place. The rod has a conical end which co-operates with one end of the passage through the valve member 10A.
