Apparatus for clamping flasksections together in foundry plants, in which the moulds are moved on a conveyer, comprises a holding device in which the clamp is held so that one crane-pin of the flask sections to be connected will move one arm of the clamp along, during the movement of the flask, and forms the pivot for the inward swing of the clamp over a crane pin of the second flask section, and a device for feeding the clamps to the holding device. The clamp 1 is held in a funnel 13 at a station C by loaded straps 14, 15 on flexible hinges 16. As a flask 21, 22 on truck 44 passes beneath the clamp, the upper crane pin 4 engages the arm 2 of the clamp, which turns so that its arm 3 is freed from the strap 14 and swings under the action of its own weight into the clamping position, wherein the arm 3 embraces the pin 5. There is clamp-applying apparatus on each side of the conveyer. After pouring and cooling, the flask is emptied, and at a station A each clamp is removed by a reciprocating plunger 25, Fig. 4, carrying a magnetic chuck 27. The clamp is first displaced from the clamping position by a nose 28 on the plunger, and is then carried on the chuck during retraction of the plunger, until displaced by stops 29. The displaced clamp falls on to a shoe 30 and is lifted thereby by a cylinder 32 until protuberances 8 on the clamp engage in the links of a chain conveyer 34, whereby the clamps are returned to the holding device 13. Spring-loaded frames 42, associated with the clamp-removing apparatus, ensure accurate positioning of the flask on the truck 44, and hold it in position when the clamps have been removed.
