815,578. Hydraulic pit props. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. April 23, 1957 [May 1, 1956], No. 13418/56. Class 20(2) An hydraulic pit prop having a cylinder 10 and a ram 14 has a cap 23 to engage the mine roof and a strut 25 fitting the ram and adapted to engage the cylinder 10 near the limit of inward movement of the ram and transmit the load of the mine roof directly to the cylinder. The cap is secured on the ram by means of a bolt 29 which curves round the ram and may be exchanged for a cap with a longer skirt. A hand grip 34 is provided on the cap.
