Abstract

814,465. Circlips; internal clamps. BRISTOL AIRCRAFT Ltd. Jan. 18, 1957 [Feb. 20, 1956], No. 5243/56. Classes 44 and 89(2) [Also in Group XVIII] A connection for removably securing- together members 1, 2, Fig. 1, with contiguous-cylindrical-faces 3, 4, comprises a groove 3a, 4a extending around each face, groove 4a being of greater axial-width than groove 3a and substantially wholly overlying groove 3a, a split-ring 5 capable of being contained wholly within the groove 4a and having a peripheral-portion 3b closely fitting groove 3a and a peripheral-surface 4c bearing on the cylindrical-face 3 of member 1. The ring is urged by its own resilience to the position shown in full-lines and is moved into groove 4a to allow release of the members by tools 8 inserted in holes 9. In another arrangement, the ring 27, Fig. 2, is urged by its own resilience to be contained within the large-groove 26, and is urged to engage the smaller-groove 25 by screws 30 spaced around member 21, which is a pressureresistance light-alloy-closure for a steel cylinder 22. The closure engages the cylinder end with an inturned-flange 35. One end of the ring may be secured by a peg 41. Fig. 3 so that observation of the movement of the other end to a position between holes 43, 44 in closure 21 signifies that the ring is fully seated in groove 25. Holes 34 provide access for tools to free the ring, should it stick. Diametrically-opposed-slots 40 permit the seating of flange 35 to be observed before the ring is expanded. The ring may be split at more than one place, and the screws 30 may be replaced by a screw-threadedsleeve.
