Abstract

814,005. Knitting-machines. F.N.F. MACHINERY MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. March 8, 1957 [March 16, 1956], No. 8342/56. Class 74 (2). Each warp of yarns passing from its beam to the needles of a warp machine passes over a tension bar 3 supported by spring cantilevers 7. The cantilevers 7 are secured to a shaft 8 which has secured to it a bell-crank lever 13, one arm of which is formed as a toothed quadrant 15 for engagement with a pinion 16. The other arm of the lever 13 is attached to a rod 18a which slides through a fixed support 20 and carries a coil-spring 19a between the support 20 and adjusting nut 21. The resilience of the spring 19a is weak compared with that of the cantilever 7. The pinion 16 is secured to a shaft 17 carrying a flywheel 18 having a blade 27 adapted to operate micro-switches 30, 31. During knitting the cyclical variation in the tension of the warp is accommodated by the deflection of the cantilevers 7 whereas a permanent increase or decrease in the tension is sustained sufficiently to enable the flywheel to be rotated, whereby its blade 27 operates one of the switches 30, 31. These switches are in the circuit of a motor controlling a variable-speed gearing coupled to the warp beam and when operated cause an increase or decrease in the speed of the beam.
