Abstract
813,789. Drilling and screwing-machines. HONSBERG, A. [trading as HONSBERG GEB.]. Nov. 3, 1955 [Nov. 4, 1954], No. 31512/55. Class 83 (3). A boring, drilling or screw-cutting machine comprises a casing 7 (shown diagrammatically in Fig. 7), having a number of passages one of which, at right angles to the others, supports a mounting 6 for the tool spindle 5, which is fed by a pinion 20a in another of the passages, engaging a rack 8 on the mounting, while the rest of the passages are so disposed in relation to the passage for pinion 20a as to accommodate any one of a number of alternative devices for driving the pinion. The pinion may be driven, through an epicyclic gear 15, Fig. 2, by two electric motors, as in Specification 788,010. In the form illustrated in Fig. 7, the drive of the prior Specification is modified by replacing the epicyclic gear by a cam-feed which may be disconnected by use of a handfeed control 62a. A sector gear 51 carries a follower pressed against the feed cam 52 by a spring 53. The pinion 51 meshes with a gear 19 loose on a shaft 55 and clutched at 63 to the hand-feed control 62a which is keyed to the shaft 55. A sleeve 64 keyed to the shaft 55 is pressed by a spring 66 into driving engagement with the hollow shaft of pinion 20a. For hand-feed, the control 62a is moved along the shaft 55 to disengage the clutch 63. Alternatively, the rack-pinion may be driven by a hand lever or by a rack operated by a hydraulic piston (Figs. 5, 6, not shown).
