In the centrifugal process for making glass and like fibres the openings in the periphery of the spinners are made of different sizes. The openings in each row may all be of the same diameter in that row or they may be of different diameters in that row. The diameters may vary from row to row or from one series of rows to another. A mixture of fibres of different diameters may thus be obtained, but fibres of a more or less uniform diameter may be obtained by arranging that the larger diameter openings are in the zones where the glass is more viscous.
